An experiment in realistic open-world games: exploring how a Changsha-inspired street, underground shops, and an atrium become connected spaces to walk through and observe.

The Challenge

Realism involves more than detailed buildings. How can scale, materials, light, and spatial connections work together to make urban exploration feel coherent?

Approach

  1. Connect an IFS-inspired streetscape with underground shops, escalators, and an atrium.
  2. Keep an editable Blender scene and export GLB partitions for a browser walkthrough.
  3. Explore spatial continuity and visual expression before expanding into more complex game systems.

System Structure

  1. Authoring: Blender scenes, materials, and reconstruction scripts.
  2. Runtime: Three.js, local GLB partitions, collision and scene configuration.
  3. Interaction: keyboard movement, mouse look, shop navigation, and return to entrance.
  4. Migration exploration: Unreal asset preparation; editor import and runtime remain unverified.

Outcomes

  • An editable city scene and a local browser walkthrough.
  • An IFS-inspired exterior, street infrastructure, underground shops, and atrium connections.
  • Practical exploration of asset organization and export from authoring to browser runtime.
